Kevin Garvey

Studio Director

Kevin gets his inspiration from his late grandmother, former DMA National President Dotty McGill. He started dancing at her studio at the age of 4, studying all genres of dance. At age 17, he was accepted into the Pennsylvanian Governor's School for the Arts as a dance major. He is a graduate of Point Park University where he received a B.A. in dance with a concentration in jazz. Kevin has worked with such companies as Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Neil Goldberg's Cirque Productions, Gary Musick Productions, as well as performing with Recording Artist, Amy Grant. In addition to being a dancer with Norwegian Cruise Lines, her served as Production Company Manager an Dance Captain.  His choreography was featured on multiple NCL ships. Most recently, he was a featured on the WGN America show – Outsiders. As well as teaching for Dotty McGill School of Dance, he is on faculty at Grove City College, where he is the advisor for Orchesis Dance Company and is the choreographer for the musicals at the college. He has been teaching dance since 2000 and is a member of Dance Masters of America. Currently, he serves a 1st Vice President of Dance Masters of Pennsylvania. His choreography and students have won numerous awards regionally and nationally, holding multiple state and national titles, including the former Miss Pennsylvania 2019 – Tiffany Seitz and Miss Dance of Pennsylvania 2012 – Makenna Isles.

Ashley Hazy

Ashley has been a member of our staff for over 10 years. Prior to that, she was a student for over 10 years. She has completed one year of teacher’s training under Dance Masters of America. She is a member of the Cecchetti Council of America and holds the prestigious Teacher’s Elementary Grade V Certificate.

Emily Smith

A native of Slippery Rock, Emily Is a proud alumnus of the Dotty McGill School of Dance.  She began her dance education at the age of 3, she was a delayed speaker and dance proved a successful therapy in turning Emily into a enthusiastic chatterbox and lover of dance. After 15 years of being a Dotty’s Dancer, Emily made her way west to attend Oklahoma City University on talent and academic scholarship where she received a BFA in acting while maintaining her dance education by studying with the legendary Professor Robert Reed and Marcia Oplotnik. From there, Emily traveled to Beantown, where she received her MFA in Musical Theater at The Boston Conservatory at Berklee. In addition to her school performances, Emily was a member of the BOCO Hoofers Tap Ensemble helmed by Aaron Tolson (Riverdance, Imagine Tap).

Emily is also the Founder and Producing Artistic Director of Local Classic Repertory, a new theater company (whose presence is currently virtual) that gives audiences a “local” feel of a community theater going experience with a global audience, whose members directly champion the creation of diverse and inclusive theater work.

Victoria Lowrey

Victoria was a student at Dotty’s for 16 years. She graduated from Slippery Rock University where she received her BA in Dance. Dance has been such an important part of her life, and she is glad to still be a part of the DMD family now as a faculty member.


Makenna Isles

Makenna has been a lifelong student at DMD and also attended several summer dance intensives including Pittsburgh Youth Ballet, Point Park University, Sugar and Bruno Dance Camp, Dance Masters of America Student Honors and Intensive Program and Dance Masters of America’s National Conventions. Makenna became a Certified Yoga Instructor in 2018 through Yoga Alliance, completing the 200 hour RYT training. She also is certified in Modules 1-4 of Alixa Flexibility, and completed Instructor Certification in Progressing Ballet Technique. She holds a Grade V Cecchetti certificate. Makenna was a Dancer Ambassador for the Ballet in the City organization and a “Tapprentice” for Resonance Tap Convention. She has won many dance titles, but is most proud of winning the titles of Junior Miss Dance of PA and Miss Dance of PA through Dance Masters of Pennsylvania. Makenna finished in the top 10 in the Miss Dance of America competition as the youngest competitor at age 16. Makenna has also won many dance scholarships including Tuition, Cash and College Scholarships through Dance Masters of PA and the Cecchetti Council of PA. She has been an assistant teacher and demonstrator for several years at DMD and enjoys teaching her own classes as well. She completed her first year at Dance Masters of America’s Teacher Training School is attending Grove City College as an Exercise Science major with a concentration in Physical Therapy and a minor in Nutrition. Makenna has begun the membership process to become a member of Dance Masters of Pennsylvania and hopes to take her certification exams this winter.

Ann Garvey
Studio Manager

Ann came back to DMD to be the office manager after graduating from Grove City College and proudly serving her country as an Air Force Officer.  Ann is also the costume designer for the studio, designing and creating over 200 costumes annually.
